Fireguard Courses
With the demand for Security Guards in New YorkCity, Fireguards are becoming just as demanding. Most office buildings and construction sites are making the fireguard license a mandatory certification to have. To become a fireguard, you must obtain a fireguard license/certificate of fitness from the NYFD. To obtain such a license, a security guard must successfully pass the fitness examination’s fire department certificate.
The fire department does not conduct any courses for any of the fireguard classes. However, they provide you with a guide, which you can study to increase your chance of passing the examination.
Tribune Training Academy will give you the appropriate instructions on the topics covered in the NYFD guides certificate you are attempting to acquire. At the end of the course, you will receive a package that contains multiple-choice questions and worksheets created to help you practice and maximize your chance of passing.
Course Length: 6 hours Aprox
Course Type: On-Site (In Person)
This is an exam preparatory course for the Fireguard Certificate of Fitness (COF) examination only. We do not provide the FDNY COF examination.
You must go to 9 Metrotech and pay the FDNY fees in order to take the exam.
Also, we do not provide any official FDNY questions. The questions you will receive are created for your practice based on the Certificate of fitness topics found in the FDNY study guide. You can find this guide at the FDNY website for free. This course is offered with the sole purpose of providing additional assistance for FDNY COF examination.
Tribune Training Academy is not responsible for the passing or failing of any COF examinations.
You are to study the guide provided by the FDNY in order to prepare for this examination.
If you chose to, you may utilize the guidance from Tribune Training Academy, alongside the FDNY study material to further boost your chance of passing the examinations.

Buildings operating as emergency shelters have the unique requirement of fire guards on the premises at all times. Fire guards in shelters have a larger span of responsibility than fire guards in most other occupancies. This course will outline the New York City Fire Department guidelines for fireguard performing a fire watch at shelters.
The F-03 and F-04 were previously the F-94 Certificate of Fitness: fireguard for places of public assembly and fireguard for film studios.
F-03 C of F is a premises-related certification, and it is designed for the occupancies with a Place of Assembly Certificate of Operation (PA).
The F-03 C of F holders are responsible for maintaining fire safety in any approved place of assembly (PA)or temporary place of assembly (TPA) activities held on the premises.
This exam prep course will help you prepare for the examination for the Certificate of Fitness for a place of Temporary Place of Assembly Safety Personnel (TPA).
This course will include information taken from the 2014 New York City Fire Code and won’t contain all of the information you need to know to work as safety personnel.
It is your responsibility to become familiar with all applicable rules and regulations of the City of New York, even if they are not covered in this course.
In this course, we will cover the following topics:
- Fire safety and evacuation plan
- Pre-event inspection
- During the event
- Emergency notification and procedures inspections
- During the performance
- Regular inspections
The F-03 and F-04 were previously the F-94 Certificate of Fitness: fireguard for places of public assembly and fireguard for film studios.
F-03 C of F is a premises-related certification, and it is designed for the occupancies with a Place of Assembly Certificate of Operation (PA).
The F-03 C of F holders are responsible for maintaining fire safety in any approved place of assembly (PA)or temporary place of assembly (TPA) activities held on the premises.
This exam prep course will help you prepare for the examination for the Certificate of Fitness for a place of Temporary Place of Assembly Safety Personnel (TPA).
This course will include information taken from the 2014 New York City Fire Code and won’t contain all of the information you need to know to work as safety personnel.
It is your responsibility to become familiar with all applicable rules and regulations of the City of New York, even if they are not covered in this course.

Note: The F-60 Certificate of Fitness is NOT qualified to serve as a watch person at the construction site. Applicants who apply to be a watch person should take the S-60 Certificate of Fitness test.

You need to be familiar with the 2014 Building Code Section 3303, 3310 and Fire Code Chapter 14, which regulate the watch person’s duties at construction sites to prepare for the exam adequately.
This exam preparation course will help you prepare for the examination for the Certificate of Fitness for Use Of Flammable Gases With Oxygen Or Use Of LPG/CNG For Hot Work Operations (Citywide) G-60.
This course does not contain all of the information you need to know to work as a Fireguard. It is your responsibility to become familiar with all applicable rules and regulations of the City of New York, even if they are not covered in this course.
